Very Versatile Vases

I started keeping my eyes open for good deals on glass
apothecary jars and vases when I needed some about five
years ago for the candy table at my daughter's wedding.

I learned from having those first vases that they are very versatile.

I'm always misspelling the word "versatile" so I looked it up in
the dictionary so you would not be snickering when you saw
the title of this blog post spelled wrong.  The dictionary says
that the word "versatile" means
1. changing readily
2. embracing a variety of skills
3. having many uses or applications

Those definitions describe my clear glass vases perfectly!
They can be used in so many different ways.
They adapt to the occasion they are used for.
They are like chameleons.

My stash of clear vases has...ummm...grown since those first
ones I bought for the wedding.  You can find them fairly
inexpensively at craft stores and discount stores.

Recently, I even dressed some of my vases up in sweaters.
If you would like to see more photos of any of these projects, click on the highlighted link.

Sometimes the vases are main characters of a vignette...

Other times the vases are more part of an ensemble cast:

 I love little vases too.
They come in such cute shapes and are cheap.
It only takes a single bloom to make them pretty.
I may, or may not, have added to my "collection"
when a friend asked me to help decorate
tables at her daughter's wedding reception.

You can even change the color of the clear glass vases
to match a party or season of the year:

You might even say that I have become a hoarder of clear vases.
Alison of Polohouse blog says, "Hoarders...collectors...
a thin line...but hey, if you have to hoard...oops 'collect'
something it might as well be fantastic and beautiful".
She also says, "It's not hoarding if it looks nice".

Well, I'll let you decide.  Here are a some vases that
have been in my carport for a few weeks:

I can find lots of excuses not to put them up because I have to
"tote" them up these stairs to place them in their storage space:

Then I have to walk like the Hunchback of Notre Dame
(due to  low beams) to get them on their shelves
at the far end of the attic.

Sometimes the vases get loaned out to go to other folks'
houses for parties so I don't totally hoard them for myself.

If you don't have some clear glass vases, you should buy a few
when you see a good price on them (even Dollar Tree has some).
You don't have to go cray-cray with them like I have.

For other ideas on how to use clear glass vases,
Pottery Barn has good pictures and instructional videos.

I'm sharing this post over at the monthly Organizational
Blog Party at The Dedicated House

  28. Hi Ms. Koy Kat §:-)

First and foremost, I love your blog name.

Second, if my hubby see this, he will be faint. LoL. He think I am a hoarder. I keep everything and I love glasses in all sizes.

    TY for the great inspirations.

  29. Oh, mercy!!! Hats off to you for making that climb! I couldn't do it! I had 2 of those storage ladder spaces when I lived in my condo years ago (emphasis on YEARS AGO when I was younger and thinner and more agile!!!), and I would hop up and down them all the time. I don't know how on earth you do it! It's great to have that kind of stash!!!

Thanks for sharing your collection of wonderful vases! It's always nice to have a vast variety!

Thanks for sharing. I agree with The Polo House...it's not hoarding if it's pretty!!! I couldn't agree with you more!

  30. Visiting from Alma's - love seeing where everyone stows their stash! Your vases are, indeed, versatile, and your vignettes with them are all great.
Last year I hoarded all the vintage mason jars I came across in my antique & vintage sales dealings for my daughter's wedding, and am now sharing those with friends for similar events. I know I can always sell them, but I enjoy having them for special occasions.
Having my basement in better shape is my goal, and Alma's call to tell the world where it's all stashed is a good prompt!
    Nice to make your acquaintance,
